What Are The Best Treatments for Veins?

If you’re suffering from unsightly veins, you’re not alone. Over 15 million people in the United States have varicose veins, while millions more have spider veins. While veins are a normal part of our circulatory system, they can become problematic when they start to bulge or twist, causing pain, discomfort, and embarrassment. Fortunately, there are a number of treatments available to help you get rid of these unwanted veins. In this article, we’ll discuss the best treatments for veins, including minimally invasive procedures that we offer at New York Vein Treatment.

Understanding Vein Problems

Before we discuss treatments for vein problems, it’s important to understand what causes these issues. Veins are responsible for carrying blood back to the heart after it has circulated through the body. In order to do this effectively, veins contain one-way valves that prevent blood from flowing backward. However, when these valves weaken or become damaged, blood can start to pool in the veins, causing them to bulge or twist.

Varicose Vein Treatment

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins that often appear blue or purple in color. They can cause discomfort and pain, and may even make it difficult to stand or walk for long periods of time. At New York Vein Treatment, we offer a variety of minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins, including endovenous laser ablation, radiofrequency ablation, VenaSeal, and ambulatory phlebectomy.

Endovenous Laser Ablation

Endovenous Laser Ablation is a minimally invasive treatment option for varicose veins. The procedure involves using laser energy to seal shut the affected vein, which then collapses and eventually disappears. During the procedure, a small catheter is inserted into the affected vein, and a laser fiber is threaded through the catheter. The laser fiber then delivers energy to the vein, heating the vein and causing it to collapse.

Endovenous Laser Ablation is performed on an outpatient basis and usually takes less than an hour. Patients are typically able to resume their normal activities immediately following the procedure, although some may experience minor discomfort or bruising in the treated area. Most patients report a significant improvement in their symptoms within a few weeks.

Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency Ablation is another minimally invasive treatment option for varicose veins. Like Endovenous Laser Ablation, this procedure involves sealing shut the affected vein to reroute blood flow to healthier veins. However, radiofrequency ablation uses heat energy instead of laser energy to seal the vein. During the procedure, a small catheter is inserted into the affected vein, and a radiofrequency generator is used to deliver energy to the vein. The heat energy causes the vein to collapse, rerouting blood flow to healthier veins.

Radiofrequency Ablation is also performed on an outpatient basis and typically takes less than an hour. Patients may experience mild discomfort or bruising following the procedure, but most are able to resume their normal activities immediately. Like EVLA, most patients report a significant improvement in their symptoms within a few weeks of the procedure.

VenaSeal

VenaSeal is a newer minimally invasive treatment option for varicose veins that involves using a medical adhesive to seal shut the affected vein. During the procedure, a small catheter is inserted into the affected vein, and a medical adhesive is delivered through the catheter to the vein. The adhesive seals the vein shut, rerouting blood flow to healthier veins.

VenaSeal is also performed on an outpatient basis and is typically completed within an hour. Because it does not require heat energy or multiple injections, it may be less uncomfortable for some patients than other treatments. Most patients are able to resume their normal activities immediately following the procedure, and many report a significant improvement in their symptoms within a few weeks.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Ambulatory Phlebectomy is a minimally invasive treatment option for varicose veins that involves removing the affected vein through a small incision in the skin. During the procedure, small incisions are made along the length of the affected vein, and the vein is removed in small sections. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia and may take up to an hour, depending on the size and location of the vein.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy is also performed on an outpatient basis and requires little downtime. Most patients are able to resume their normal activities within a day, although some may experience mild discomfort or bruising in the treated area. Like the other treatments, most patients report a significant improvement in their symptoms within a few weeks.

Spider Vein Treatment: Sclerotherapy

Spider veins are smaller, thinner veins that often appear red or blue in color. They are commonly found on the legs and face and can be caused by a variety of factors, including heredity, pregnancy, and standing for long periods of time. At New York Vein Treatment, we offer a minimally invasive treatment called sclerotherapy to treat spider veins. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution into the affected vein, causing it to collapse and fade from view. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and typically takes less than an hour.

Like our varicose vein treatments, sclerotherapy is minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime. It’s an effective treatment for spider veins that can help improve the appearance of your skin and boost your self-confidence.
